CARBURETOR ADJUSTMENTS, Cont'd
THROTTLE RETURN CHECK ADJUSTMENT
1. Install carburetor and throttle return check assembly on engine manifold (Figure 5). Connect the carburetor controls, gasoline, and vacuum spark control lines. Be certinathat accelerator pull back spring No. 3695705 is used.
2. Check the alignment of the throttle return check adjusting screw with the contact arm on the throttle lever (figure 5). It may be necessary to bend the throttle return bracket or throttle lever contact arm to center the adjusting screw on the radius of the contact arm.
3. Connect a tachometer to the engine. Place the transmission control in the park position. Start the engine and run it at fast idle to warm up the engine.
4. Adjust the throttle stop screw and idle adjusting needle in combination with each other to secure a smooth idle at 500 RPM in "N" position. This adjustment should be made with the choke valve in the wide open position and the throttle stop screw resting on the low step of the fast idle cam.

5.    Shut off engine. With the choke valve in the closed position, locate the throttle stop screw so that it rests on the highest step of the fast idle cam (Figure 5).
6.    Then, using a 3/8" wrench, turn the Throttle Return Check adjusting screw until it just contacts the throttle lever contact arm. Hold flats on shaft with a wrench whenever adjusting screw is turned.
7.    Install atr cleaner. Start engine and recheck idling adjustment.

FIGURE 6

1.    Assemble carburetor to engine manifold. Connect the carburetor controls, gasoline and vacuum spark control lines.
2.    Mount manifold stove assembly on exhaust manifold between No. 1 and No. 2 exhaust ports so that hot air tube connection is offset slightly towards the rear of the engine (Figure 6) Do not tighten retainer screw securely until tube installation is made.
3.    Place tapered end of hot air tube into manifold stove connection. Then by adjusting the position of the manifold stove on the exhaust
manifold, assemble the tube fitting to the

carburetor choke housing connection until it is finger tight.

4.    After this assembly has been made, tighten the stove retainer screw and tube    fitting securely.

5. Install new clip 3700188 between throttle control rod and carburetor throttle lever.
