4. Replace piston valves and complete assembly operation as instructed previously under "To Change Relief Valves Only, Double-Acting Opposed Internal Valve Type."
SERVICING SHOCK ABSORBER LINKS
Links which are bent or have enlarged or elongated link pin holes should be replaced. Link pins should be a tight fit in link pin holes. A loose connection at this point places extra strain on shock absorber and results in rapid wear.
Double-Acting Parallel Cylinder Type
The front shock absorber links on the passenger cars are integral with the shock absorber body and also form the upper control arms. Therefore, a damaged or worn arm would necessitate replacement of the entire shock absorber.
Rear shock absorber links on the passenger cars are only serviced as units as the design of the link grommet and pin does not permit replacement.
Single-Acting Type
Disconnect the link at the lower end and remove the shock absorber from the car. Press the worn bushing and grommet from the shock absorber arm and/or link eye bolt, using the bushing remover and support J-903 in an arbor -press, as shown in Fig. 30.
Coat the new rubber grommet with liquid soap, for easy installation, and press it into the shock absorber arm and/or link eye bolt, using tool J-901 to insure proper seating of the grommet.
grommet, Fig. 31. The replacing tool, J-899, expands the grommet and should be used for this operation to prevent damaging the grommet.

The two pin holes through each clevis are of different diameters, and the serrated end of the link pins, when assembled, should be in the small hole of the clevis. Installing the end of the pin through the large hole of the clevis will produce this condition.
Press the pin into the link at the shock absorber arm and/or link eye bolt, using tool J-902. This tool limits the depth that the pin can be pressed through the link, preventing damage to the link
holes.
After the pin is installed, strike the link against the press plate of the arbor press. A sharp blow on the head of the pin or pins will properly seat the large hole of the clevis on the shoulder of the pin.
Assemble cotter pin to link pin and install shock absorber on car.
