REAR SPRING LUBRICATION
(Passenger Cars)
The rear springs are enclosed in metal covers. The spring leaves are coated and the covers are filled with a special graphite grease at the time the springs are assembled.
Should it become necessary to lubricate the spring leaves, or refill the spring covers, a soft, smooth, cup grease or chassis lubricant, to which 8% to 10% graphite has been added, should be used.
The term "chassis lubricant" as used in this manual, describes a semi-fluid lubricant designed for application by commercial pressure gun equipment. It is composed of mineral oil (300 to 500 seconds Sayboldt Universal viscosity at 100° F.) combined with approximately 8% soap, or soaps, which are insoluble in water.
CAB-OVER-ENGINE MODELS
Cab-Over-Engine trucks are provided with a removable hand hole cover in the right floor pan of the cab for easy access to the engine compartment for lubrication.
Standpipes are provided for lubricating the generator front and rear bearings which are accessible after raising the hood. Provision for steering gear lubrication is made by a standpipe at the steering gear housing also reached by raising the hood.
CHASSIS LUBRICATION
For chassis lubrication, consult the lubrication charts. Figures 4, 5 and 6 show the points to be lubricated and how often the lubricant should be applied.
