protect the paint.
With the lid closed and locked in position, check for proper alignment
as shown in Fig. 42 at "A," "B," and "C."
In cases where the lid
does not fit or is not spaced properly in the opening, it may be
necessary to shift the lid either fore and aft or side-ways at the
hinge screw holes sufficiently to adjust it in the opening. The hinge
screw holes are slotted for adjustment as shown in Fig. 44. NO
ATTEMPT SHOULD BE MADE TO BEND THE HINGES-BREAKAGE MAY RESULT.
In some instances it
may be necessary to re-form the flange of the lid by carefully
spooning or spring hammering it to the proper shape and contour as
shown in Fig. 43.
Should the lid be in
or out too far in relation to the body opening, correction may be made
by raising or lowering the lid. To raise the upper end
|
of the lid place a
thin shim or shims at the upper edge of one or both hinges as shown in
Fig. 44 at "A" depending on which side of the lid requires raising. To
lower the lid place the shim or shims at the lower ends of the lid
hinges as shown in Fig. 44 at "B."
The lower or lock end
of the lid may be adjusted to increase or decrease the firmness of
contact with the opening by loosening and adjusting the adjustable
lock striker plate located at the lower center of the opening.

Fig. 45-Rear Comportment Lid Striker
Parts
The striker plate has
slotted holes to provide for this adjustment. To insure against
movement out of position after the bolts are tightened, the back of
the striker plate is serrated and matches similar serrations on the
front of the backing plate which contains true bolt holes, Fig. 45.
To increase the
locking tension or sealing along the lower edge of the lid, loosen the
two striker plate attaching bolts and move the plate downward. To
decrease the tension move the plate upward. Be sure the bolts are
securely tightened following any adjustment.
Rear Compartment Lid Lock
A hinged type lid
locking mechanism is used at the lower end of the rear compartment lid
which, through the use of a coil spring on the striker or latch hinge
pin, swings forward away from the striker plate and 180 degrees around
from the locked position when the lid handle is turned to the open
position. Fig. 46.
The striker or latch
is completely out of the way when the lid is opened, thus preventing
the possibility of injury to anyone loading or unloading the
compartment.
When turning the
handle to the locked position the striker or latch swings around and
presses against the face of the striker plate, pulling the lid
