*Optional Equipment.
NOTE—On all two-speed rear axle
trucks a two-speed Speedometer Adapter Assembly is used as standard
equipment. This adapter is automatically shifted when shifting the
rear axle. Part No. 3652705 Adapter is used with the 5.64 to 1 and 8.22 to 1 ratio axle, and
part No. 606431 Adapter with the 6.17 to 1 and 8.22 to 1 rear
axle.
REAR
SPRINGS
The rear
springs on all passenger car and truck models are of the semi-elliptic type and
are designed for each
individual unit to provide adequate load-carrying capacity and a
spring rate which is proportional to that of the front springs to give the
smoothest ride
possible.
Two-stage
springs are used on all 3/4-ton models as well as on the 1-1/2-ton
134-1/2" Wheelbase panel and the 160"
and 195-1/8" Wheelbase School Bus chassis. The advantage of two-stage
springs is in the reduction of
the rebound or "throw" condition when the truck is not loaded and still give
the proper resistance to or
control of "bumping through"
when the truck is loaded. On all two-stage springs the rate change occurs prior
to reaching one-half of
the rated chassis payload.
