TROUBLE
PROBABLE CAUSE
TEST AND REMEDY
(H) Brakes squeak. (Cont'd)
4.  Drums not square or distorted.
5.  Incorrect lining.
6.  Shoes scraping on backing plate ledges.
4. Turn or grind or replace drums.
5.  Replace lining per car factory specifications.
6.  Apply Delco Brake Lube to ledges. Replace with new shoe and linings if distorted.
(I) Pedal strikes toe board or felt re­tainer — cannot be adjusted.
1. Pedal stop lock ring out of seat in master cylinder.
1. Remove the master cylinder and rubber boot. Examine the lock ring seat to see that the seat groove is sufficiently deep to hold the lock ring securely. See that the lock ring is flat and has ample tension to expand it tightly into the bot­tom of the groove. Reassemble the stop and lock ring, being certain that the lock ring is seated into the bottom of the groove. After replacing the master cylinder, bleed the lines.
(J) Brakes fade.
1.  Incorrect lining.
2.  Poor lining contact.
3.  Thin drum—excessive expansion.
1.  Replace lining with lining recommended by car factory.
2.  Adjust shoes to give full lining contact—or re­place with lining recommended by car factory.
3.  Replace drums.
