at the time of assembly and after a repair
          operation.

          NOTE-The pipe plug
in the top of the front universal joint housing on the 4-speed
transmission (optional equipment) is for manufacturing purposes and
is used to fill the front universal joint at the time of assembly.

The intermediate and rear universal joints are
          the needle bearing type equipped
with lubrication fittings, and should be lubricated with the
same type of lubricant used in
          the transmission.

          CAUTION-Under no
consideration should any of the soap type of greases-such as chassis
lubricant, fibrous universal joint lubricants, etc.
          -be
          used.

The propeller shaft slip joint, located at the
          rear of the intermediate universal
          joint is also equipped
with a lubrication fitting and should be
          lubricated with chassis
          lubricant.

          The front and rear
          universal joints of the C.O.E.
109-1/2" truck and the front, intermediate and rear
          intermediate universal joints of
          the other models listed
above, are of the needle bearing type equipped with lubrication
fittings and should be lubricated with the same type lubricant used in
          the transmission.

          CAUTION—Under no
circumstances should any of the soap type greases—such as chassis
lubricant, fibrous universal joint lubricant, etc.—be
          used.

The propeller shaft slip joints are equipped with
          lubrication fittings and should
          be lubricated with chassis lubricants.

          FRONT WHEEL LUBRICATION

          It is necessary to
remove the wheels to lubricate the
ball bearings. The bearing assemblies should be cleaned, and the
          bearing ball retainer packed
with a high melting point front
          wheel bearing grease.

          NOTE-For
Cab-Over-Engine Truck front wheel bearing lubrication use soft smooth
grease. Fibrous or viscous types of lubricant must not be used.

Do not pack the hub between the inner and outer bearing assemblies nor
the hub cap, as this excessive
lubrication results in the grease working out
into the brake drums and lining.
