in Fig. 68. This serves as a safe
depth gauge.
After drilling to the
correct depth, use a screwdriver
in the keyhole and turn with pliers.
Key Cutting Machine
The Briggs and Stratton key cutting machine,
Fig. 69, with its code book and
complete key cutting
instructions, enables any service man to cut
keys after a few minutes'
practice. Key blanks are
inexpensive and require less than five minutes to
cut to any given code.

Ignition Lock Case Removal
1.
Detach ignition cable from
instrument panel.
2. Bend
the three lock tangs to remove the lock
case, "C", Fig. 70.
3. A
new lock case can be slipped into place with the narrow tang engaging
the narrow slot, "D", Fig. 70.
4.
Bend the lock tangs back
securely into place.
Glove Compartment Lock Cylinder Removal
1. Remove
the lock from the glove compartment
door by removing the screw and
retainer cup.
2. Place
the lock assembly in a vise. Fully depress
the steel retainer tumbler and
hold it down while
inserting the key. Turn the key clockwise
until cylinder can be pulled out
of the case, "A", Fig. 71.

Supplements are issued as new locks and keys are released, thus
keeping the code book up to date.
Ignition Lock Cylinder Removal
1.
Insert key and turn clockwise
until the stop is reached.
2. Insert
a stiff wire through the hole in the face
of the lock cylinder, depress
plunger, "A", Fig. 70.
3. Continue
to turn the key clockwise until the
lock cylinder can be removed,
"B", Fig. 70.

NOTE—The groove in
the key engages the projection on the retainer tumbler to hold it down
while the cylinder is being removed, "B", Fig. 71.
3. To insert the
cylinder in the case-depress the
retainer tumbler with the finger-nail and hold
it down while inserting the key in
the cylinder, "C", Fig.
71. Push the cylinder into the case,
hold thumb against the face of the
cylinder and remove the key. Removing the key releases the
retainer tumbler and allows it to
snap in place thereby
locking the cylinder in the case.
Rear Compartment Lock Cylinder
1.
Unlock and open lid.
2. Remove
handle retaining nut on underside of
lid. Pull handle out.
