wheel cylinder should be inspected for similar conditions.
Before reassembling the wheel cylinder, coat the bore and internal parts with Delco Brake Fluid. Install wheel cylinder clamp and mount wheel cylinder on brake backing plate. Examine hose for cracks or internal swelling before connecting to wheel cylinder and copper tubing. Replace any defective hose. Install connecting links, attach retractor springs, and remove clamp. (Replace old retractor springs if distorted or broken.)
Motorists should be cautioned about driving with the emergency brake on. This causes overheating of rear brakes which in turn may cause the lips of the wheel cylinder cups to take a set.

BLEEDING, FLUSHING, AND RE-FILLING BRAKE SYSTEM
INSTRUCTIONS for BLEEDING and RE-FILLING
The correct order of bleeding is left front, right front, left rear, right rear. Following this procedure expels air from the lines and wheel cylinders closest to the master cylinder first. It eliminates the possibility of air in a line close to the master cylinder entering a line further away after it has been bled.
The safest procedure is to bleed after the brake system has been completely re-assembled and the drums are in place. If, for any reason the drums are not in place, be sure retractor springs are attached and/or wheel cylinder clamp is used.
Bleeding of the hydraulic system may be accomplished by either of two methods, namely—filler jar or pressure tank. In either case, clean top of master cylinder carefully before removing filler cap assembly. (See Figures 11A and 11B.)
(A) If the filler jar method is used, remove bleeder screw in bleeder valve (See Figure 9) ; attach special bleeder hose; place end of hose in container partially filled with fluid, making sure the end of the hose is below the level of the fluid; open
bleeder valve about 3/4 turn; force fluid through by working brake pedal slowly; when bubbles of air stop coming from bleeder hose, that particular cylinder and line are bled. Tighten bleeder valve before removing bleeder hose; replace bleeder screw. Repeat operation on all cylinders.
